GLHS Staff Book Club


Purposes
  • To increase each participant’s ability to discuss or recommend contemporary young adult titles with individual students or classes
  • To experiment with curriculum connections
  • To establish relationships between teachers and students as they read books that are relevant to the student’s lives
  • To read and analyze contemporary young adult literature
  • To meet with other staff members to form working relationships and possible cross-curricular planning



Who Can be Involved
  • The group is for any staff member who wishes to participate



Participation Expectations
  • Read the book
  • Post a sign in their classroom (office/area) stating what they are currently reading
  • Complete a reading log and reflection sheet
  • Participate in discussion groups both online (www.wiggio.com) and at monthly meetings.



Logistics
  • 8 Books for the school year – One a month from October through May
  • Members will be responsible for obtaining their own copy of the book of the month (borrowed or purchased)
  • There will be a brief “start up” meeting on September 10 at 3:00 in the GLHS library




Schedule – all meetings will be held at 3:00 in the library
  • Dates TBA


Ashland Credit
  • Ashland credit will cost $___ for one semester hour
  • In order to receive credit, you will have to provide a copy of your reading log and reflection sheet for each book
